Getting Started with Cricut- Added Class
The Getting Started with Cricut- Holiday Craft class on Friday, December 8th is full. Due to popularity, we will be having a second class on Friday, December 15th at 1 PM.
About the class: Learn how to get started with the computer program, Cricut Design Space, which is needed to use a Cricut maker. A Cricut maker is a machine that cuts materials for craft making. We will be using our Library’s Cricut to create and make take-home crafts. This includes creating vinyl stickers to decorate glass containers.

Barker Bricks
This Holiday Season, Support the Barker and Gift a Piece of Local History!
These “Barker Bricks” were made from clay from the same site as the bricks used to build the 1821 Barker house, today’s Darwin R. Barker Library & Museum. Each brick is stamped with ‘1821,’ signifying the year of the Barker’s construction.
The bricks were made and graciously donated this year by Ron Nasca of Mudslingers Studio in Fredonia. Nasca explained, “To tame this wild clay, it first has to be dried, then pulverized, rewetted, and sieved to remove large and small rocks.”
Nasca obtained the clay near Chestnut Street, where the brickyard of Hezekiah Turner and Horace Risley once stood. 100,000 bricks were sold to Leverett Barker (1787-1848) who had our historic building constructed in 1821, making it the first brick house in Fredonia. The Library & Museum is named after Leverett’s son Darwin R. Barker (1820-1885), who donated his childhood home at 7 Day Street to the Fredonia Library Association in 1882.
These Barker Bricks are small enough (1¼ x ¾) to hang from a tree, and can be purchased for $10 at the Barker. We wish you a Merry Brixmas!
Miracle on Main Street @ Barker Library- Sat. December 2nd
There will be plenty to do at Darwin R. Barker Library during the Miracle on Main Street! From 10-12, join us for a Holiday Card Making Workshop. Santa arrives at 12:30 pm for Storytime and from 1:30-2:30, make an Angel Necklace/Ornament Craft.
December Storytimes
From December 4, 2023 through December 19, 2023, Darwin R. Barker Library storytimes will be held Mondays at 10:30am for preschoolers and Tuesdays, afterschool, at 4:15pm for all ages. Join us for stories, movies, crafts and play! All children welcome. No registration necessary.
*Please note: There will be no storytime on Tuesday, December 12th.*
